Change by Activism: Insurgency, Autonomy, and Political Activism in Potosí-Jerusalén, Bogotá, Colombia

Cities today face a context in which traditional politics and policies struggle to cope with increasing urbanisation rates growing inequalities. Meanwhile, social movements political activists are rising up inhabiting urban spaces as sites of contestation. However, through their practices, do more than just occupy spaces; they fundamental drivers transformation constantly face—and contest—spatial manifestations power. This article aims contribute ongoing discussions on the role activism field design, by engaging two concepts coming from Global South: <em>insurgency</em> <em>autonomy</em>. Through historical account building Potosí-Jerusalén neighbourhood Bogotá 1980s, it illustrates how both can provide new insight into change activism. On one hand, concept insurgency helps unpack mode bottom-up action that inaugurates contestation state; autonomy, other reveal complex nature visions entails. Although were developed at margins conventional design theory practice, instrumental advancing our understanding cities shaped activist practices. Thus, this is part broader effort (re)locate about transformation, rethink form practice.
